Principal’s Message

Greetings from the desk of Principal Janice DrakeLet’s celebrate what we all accomplished at the end of our school year 2018-2019 with our blue and yellow pride. June is the month when our students were reminded to stay focused such as completing projects and being assessed to know and see how they have improved since last fall. The end of the year is hard – no doubt – as approaching transitions, minds wander to the summer head, and it being hot in classrooms. Yet, they mustered our strength and resilience and brought our excellence to Sir James Whitney School in the final days.  This last month of school was a time to dig in and celebrate the joy of learning. I would like to congratulate you, staff, students and  parents/guardians for maintaining your commitment as well as being focused and ready to finish strong together! Enjoy reading our last issue of the year of 2018-2019!

Before sending this out to our newsletter editor, I would like to give my appreciation to Ms. Sheri Manktelow for her amazing promotion with our monthly newsletter. Thank you all for submitting your photos and articles. If you want to give us any feedback, please reply with your suggestions before July 1st.

Hey, I am not quite done here yet, because I want to give my heartfelt appreciation to you all, before starting my new journey of retirement. I look back at what we all did together since my first day that I arrived here.  It is truly my pleasure and an honour to work and learn together with you, all of you. It’s my time to leave this wonderful school and you made my years as SJW Principal so memorable that their memories are treasured in my heart. My best wish for you all is to showcase SJW as the best school for new students, new parents and especially for the new Principal!

Have a great and safe summer!

A wonderful opportunity to watch a new concept of visual production of music arised in Toronto. The Black Drum consists of all Deaf performers and the majority of the crew members are Deaf. 30 of us from grade 7 and up attended the performance then toured the Deaf Culture Centre afterwards.
