Amethyst School Update

We reflect during the month of November as Canadians to remember
those who have been injured or gone before us during times of war.
This year Amethyst will be hosting our Remembrance Day assembly on
Wednesday, November 11th (10:45 am) via Zoom. Each November we like to
honour the men and women who have served in the military. If you know of a friend, or family member that we could add to our bulletin board, and to be honoured at our Remembrance Day ceremony please send the information to angela.sampson@ontario.ca.

October Congratulations to

George, Mrs. Clifford’s, and Mrs. Thiel’s class for receiving our Wow Belt Award
Rowen, Logan, and Bradley for receiving our Growth Mindset
Sydney and Ryan for receiving our GRIT Award (Golden Boots)
All Remote students, Mylee, and Brock for receiving the Golden Headset Award (Technology)

Professional Activity Day (Nov. 9)

Reminder – Parents please note that Monday, November 9th
is a Professional Activity Day for the Amethyst School.
There will be no classes for students on this day.

First Term Progress Reports

This year’s Progress Reports (Elementary) and Mid-Term Reports (Secondary) will be sent home on Friday, November 20th for all Amethyst students. These reports will highlight the development of essential learning skills and work habits as well as initial achievement in the specific subject areas.

Parent Session-Transitioning to High School

Gr. 8 transitions will be starting in the fall at your local high school. Some may start in early November with Information Nights. Mrs. Bonnie Grace (Amethyst Resource Consultant) will be presenting on Tuesday, November 24th (5:30 pm) via ZOOM to share information on the process of transitioning to high school, course selections, course requirements, and a question period. A great session to participate in and begin the planning for next year – don’t delay! This session is open to any Amethyst family members. Always a very informative session for parents. Please email janet.harju@ontario.ca to register.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Please refer to the information recently emailed home regarding virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences being held the week on November 23-27. These are a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, Individual Education Plans, highlights from the year so far, areas for growth, and answer any additional questions you may have. Contact your homeroom teacher to schedule these conferences.

Residence Team Update

Our Residence character focus for the month of November is EMPATHY!

The students had some fun in residence this past month carving pumpkins, dressing up, and playing Halloween themed games. Residence has been filled with fun creative games that ensures the safety and well-being of all
students.

Our social skills are up and running! October’s social skill focus was organization, specifically, organization of agendas. Students are encouraged daily by counsellors to use their agendas to support them with reminders,
homework tasks, and checking off homework completion as they go.

November has arrived, along with some colder weather. Please continue to send in the appropriate clothing and footwear to be outside. Staff and students spend as much time outside as possible to encourage mask free time.

We look forward to a new month of supporting our students to set them up for success both socially and academically. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy November!
