Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.
Welcome to another fantastic year at Amethyst School! We are very excited for the upcoming year and are doing everything possible to make this an amazing experience for the students and staff. I want to say a special thank you for the hard work that our whole school community has put in to make our start so successful. We are working together to ensure we are meeting all of the current health and safety guidelines. Staff have reviewed these with students throughout the week. Please ensure that your child completes the covid screening tool before arriving at school: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/.
Through these In Touch newsletters, you will be kept informed on the happenings of our school community. I hope you find it useful and informative.
Each and every year in our Demonstration schools, we welcome and say goodbye to amazing staff. It is part of the model of a Demonstration school as all of our teaching staff are seconded from school boards for 1 to 5 years. In fact, I too am seconded from the London District Catholic School Board. As usual, we have had many changes in staff this year. We welcome Ms. McGrath, Ms. Gaspar, Ms. Shkilnyk and Ms. Woodiwiss. We are extremely fortunate to have these professionals as part of our team.
Our first Parent Council meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, September 28th at 5:30 pm. We will hold elections at this meeting. Please submit the nomination form if you are interested in taking on an active role in our Parent Council. All parents are invited to attend Parent Council meetings.
Please ensure you report all absences to the school office, daily. You also need to contact your bus company, and the school office, if your child will not be on the bus, either to or from school. If it is necessary for your child to be sent home for any reason, you will be contacted by a staff member. If you receive a call or text from your child directly, ensure you speak with a staff member prior to making arrangements to pick them up. Staff confirmation/approval must be given. Janet Harju is our School Secretary and you can contact her at Ext. 1527 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to working together with you all for the benefit of the students at Amethyst.
We have had a wonderful week with your children and we wish you all a great weekend together!
Student Homework and Lodging Update
Hello and welcome (back) to all the students and families at Amethyst! Student Support Counsellors are beyond excited for another year.
The first week of September has been spent settling students into their new routines at homework time and in student lodging. Student Support Counsellors have gone over the Amethyst Student Lodging Handbook with all students. Staff created ice breaker activities for students to get to know one another. We have been taking advantage of this beautiful weather to provide mask free time outside while playing variations of noodle tag and sports activities. The students have been loving the games area; playing ping pong, foosball and at the pool table.
Now that students have established their routines, we will focus on academics next week as well as fun activities for after homework.
Have a great weekend,
Student Lodging Staff
