Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.

A reminder that students must pass the screening tool daily to attend school:

Our students, with the help of our Educational Assistant, Ange, did a wonderful job at our Remembrance Day celebration. We were very proud of them!

Congratulations to our award winners last week:

  • Trystan M. won the Grit award
  • Mackenzie K. won the Growth Mindset award
  • Paige E. and Brooke T. won the Golden Headset award
  • Mason H. won the WOW award
  • Cameron L. won the Kindness award

We held our second Parent Council meeting this week. Thank you to the parents who attended the virtual meeting. The minutes from the meeting will be sent to families. Our next council meeting will be on Tuesday, February 8th at 5:30 pm. If you have any topics you would like to have added to the agenda, please contact Council Co-Chairs, Heather Rogan at hm_rogan@hotmail.com and Melissa Noel at md_noel@yahoo.ca.

On Wednesday, November 17th we will have our Elementary Cross Country Run led by our secondary students. The rain date for this will be November 18th.

Amethyst Spirit Day is on Friday, November 19th. Students are encouraged to wear purple and black. We will also have a United Way Fundraiser. Students will have an opportunity to bring a loonie or two to put it into a jar labelled with a teacher’s picture. The 3 teachers that raise the most money will get a pie in the face at Friday Meeting!

Information on our inclement weather procedures was shared a few weeks ago. Please monitor the cancellation of transportation. Any changes to transportation for our lodging students due to weather will be communicated to families.

A reminder to please ensure students have appropriate outerwear for outside time as well as a change of shoes for indoors.

Staff have been focusing on assessment and evaluation and the Elementary Progress Reports and Secondary Midterms will be going home November 19th. We will be hosting Student Led Conferences beginning the week of November 29th and these will take place over 2 weeks. Teachers will be in contact with you the week of November 22nd to schedule conference times.

The students have already begun working on these and are looking forward to sharing their progress with you.

Photo Retake Day is November 29th – if families want a retake, the current package has to be returned. Students who were absent on the initial day will also have their photo taken on this date.

Spirit Wear is still on sale. The flyer and order form was included last week in the communication folder. Please return all orders no later than Thursday, November 18th.

Here are the links to the sizing charts for the spirit wear:

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Student Lodging and Extended Day Update

Hi Parents and Guardians,

The Extended Day Program took advantage of the beautiful weather this week. They spent every night after homework outside playing various running games, such as, person of interest or capture the flag. The Student Lodging students are welcomed to come join the Extended Day students’ activities; usually about 2-4 dorm students participate. Extended Day students are also welcomed to participate in dorm games in common areas. Sometimes staff bring a whole dorm out to spend time with the Extended Day students. On Monday the Eagles Den dorm (elementary boys) went on a walking trip to Walmart, Dollarama and Talize to purchase items of their choice. On Tuesday, the Shark Tank and District 8 dorms (secondary dorms) went to McDonalds, Walmart, and Dollarama. The Loft dorm spent a couple nights this week painting old records; they absolutely loved it! The week ended with movie night on Wednesday due to students leaving on Thursday night.

Family Night

Parents are welcome to enter the main lobby area for family night, with prior permission, but not the common areas or dorms. To enter the lobby please ensure the Ontario School Screener is complete. Thank you! Please reach out to the Student Lodging Team Leaders at delanie.zettler@ontario.ca or Hillary.r.wipperman@ontario.ca to arrange a time or if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a great weekend,

Student Lodging and Extended Day Staff
