A reminder that students must pass the screening tool daily and show verification of this to attend school: COVID-19 school screening
Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.
Our award winners from this week will be recognized in our next newsletter. We’d like to recognize all of our students, families and staff for all of your hard work and support this week.
The Ontario Government announced that in-person learning will resume for students on Monday, January 17th. The ministry has confirmed a decision to continue the temporary closure of student lodging until January 28, 2022. This decision will be reviewed and a determination regarding reopening student lodging on January 31st will be communicated by this time. Students in lodging will continue with remote learning from January 17 to January 28, 2022 unless families have notified Ms. McHardy that they will be attending in-person with transportation arranged by the family daily (please note that families cannot change options after this time as we are staffing programs and
planning meals based on these numbers).
Staff have been supporting students, their learning and their well-being. Our school day will continue to run following our regular schedule with our in-person learners attending the extended day program until 5:45 pm Monday to Thursday. Our extended day program for our virtual learners is running from 2:45-3:45 pm Monday to Thursday. Our weekly Friday Meetings will take place at 2:30 pm on Zoom.
On Wednesday parents received an email with the Change in Delivery Model Form if they would like to change their learning option from in-person to remote learning for Term/Semester 2. The form must be completed by 4:00 pm on Monday, January 17th. Please also inform Ms. McHardy.
In order to keep our school safe, all students and staff must complete the school screener daily and are required to complete daily on-site confirmation of this screening. Students will need to verify this with staff each day by either showing the confirmation on their phone or showing a print out of the results. Screening should be completed at home each morning.
Students are still required to wear a well fitted cloth or medical mask that completely and comfortably covers the nose and mouth and has ear loops (no gaiters). Please send in an extra clean mask each day. The government committed to expanded access to free high quality three-ply cloth masks. Parents and guardians who are interested in receiving these masks should contact Ms. McHardy with the request.
If a student or a member of their family has symptoms, assume that they are positive for Covid-19. The entire household is required to isolate. Please refer to the following link for isolation requirements as well as the flow charts below: https://www.healthunit.com/self-isolation. It is important to always complete and follow the directions given in the daily school screening tool: COVID-19 school screening.
Please note that if a student is currently sick or isolating, they will need to complete the required number of isolation days as directed by the screening tool. Please inform the school of daily absences.
Refer to COVID-19 Integrated Testing & Case, Contact and Outbreak Management Interim Guidance: Omicron Surge (page 15 and 19) to determine number of days required to isolate.
It is critical that students continue to use the Lexia or Power Up programs during both in-person and remote learning. We will continue to encourage students to complete 40 minutes per day Monday toFriday and 30 minutes per day on weekends.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Extended Day Program/Lodging Update
Hi Parents and Guardians,
The ministry has confirmed a decision to continue the temporary closure of student lodging until January 28, 2022. This decision will be reviewed and a determination regarding reopening student lodging on January 31st will be communicated by this time.
Students in lodging will continue with remote learning from January 17 to January 28, 2022.
Some Student Support Counsellors will be on site to support extended day students.
Student Lodging’s role with remote learning:
- Remote Homework Time: Monday – Thursday 2:45-3:45pm in a homework google classroom all students have been invited too. The expectation is for all students to attend to get support and/or confirm homework is complete.
- Remote Activity Room: Thursday’s from 3:15-3:45pm in the activity room google classroom. The activity room consists of virtual games, including, virtual escape room, kahoots, scavenger hunts, and more! The activity room is for students who completed their homework. It is optional.
- Friday Meeting: Student Support Counsellors will be running our Friday Meeting. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together as a school community. We will have some fun and we will recognize students who have levelled up in Lexia. Next week we will continue with our regular weekly awards. These meetings will take place on Friday’s at 2:45pm and the link will be shared with students.
Student support counsellors are available if students need extra support. Please reach out to your child’s primary counsellor via email.
Our goal is to keep our rapport with students during the remote learning period. Please encourage your child to attend homework time Monday – Thursday 2:45-3:45pm if they are on remote learning.
