Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.

A reminder that students MUST pass the screening tool daily and show verification of this to attend school: COVID-19 school screening.

You can print result, screen shot, or email verification to your child’s teacher

Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in the screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. If there are any symptoms of any illness at school, parents will be called to pick up their child.

Congratulations to our award winners last week:

  • Cameron L. won the WOW award
  • Ms. Vincent won the Kindness award

It has been wonderful to have our lodging students back in the building! We’ve had some interesting weather this week, but the learning continued and students were supported by both lodging and school staff and joined remotely when it was necessary. We appreciated everyone’s support and flexibility!

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (OCMOH) has classified all provincial and demonstration schools and lodging as a high-risk congregate setting for the purposes of contact tracing, isolation and PCR testing.

In order to keep our school safe, all students and staff must complete the school screener daily and are required to show daily on-site confirmation of this screening. Students will need to verify this with staff each day. Screening should be completed at home each morning or in lodging each morning and it will be verified at the school.

Students are required to wear a well fitted cloth or medical mask that completely and comfortably covers their nose and mouth, and has ear loops (no gaiters). It needs to fit snugly on their face so there are no gaps and it does not slide off their nose. Please send in an extra clean mask for each day.

As a highest risk setting, if a student or staff fails the COVID-19 School Screening Tool or presents with COVID-19-like symptoms, please follow the isolation guidelines for highest risk settings outlined in the Omicron CCM Testing Guidance – English (gov.on.ca).

This means symptomatic students (including siblings) at PDSB schools and lodging will not be able to attend school in-person for 10 days from the onset of symptoms. Symptomatic people cannot test out of the requirement to not attend a Highest Risk Setting for 10 days.

If a student is a close contact to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 (either by a PCR or a rapid antigen test), they will not be able to attend school in-person for 10 days.

Two Rapid Tests are being sent home with all lodging students this week.

First term/semester report cards will be going home on Friday, February 11th.

Students need to pack their bathing suits as our pool is open for curriculum activities. Students also need to bring warm outerwear as they do spend time outside every day.

Our next Parent Council meeting will be held next week on Tuesday, February 8 at 5:30 pm. All parents are invited to attend and a Zoom link will be shared that morning.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Ms. McHardy

Extended Day Program/Lodging Update

Hi Parents and Guardians,

We have officially welcomed the Amethyst students back into Lodging this week. We are so proud of all the hard work the students put in over the last month while we pivoted to remote learning. They really showed grit, determination and perseverance and we were so happy to see their smiling faces. We had a couple stormy winter days in which the students learned remotely while in lodging with the support of the student support counsellors in dorm. The good news is we got lots of snow to try out the new snow shoes we purchased, so the students can snow shoe around our large property here at Amethyst.

Please have your student fill out the latest Ontario Covid school screener on Monday mornings before sending them on the bus; all staff and students are required to fill out the Ontario Covid Screener before coming into school/ work each day. In order to keep staff and students safe in lodging, since we have returned to school and lodging this week, we will be following all public health safety guidelines for high risk congregate care settings such as Amethyst.

We hope you have all had a safe and healthy January and we are so looking forward to seeing what February has to bring. Thank you to the students, parents, management and teachers for all of your hard work and support during the remote learning period.

Warmly,

Student Support Counsellors at Amethyst
