Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.

A reminder that students MUST pass the screening tool daily and show verification of this to attend school: COVID-19 school screening

You can print result, screen shot, or email verification to your child’s teacher. Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including any not listed in the screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. If there are any symptoms of illness at school, parents will be called to pick up their child.

In celebration of Black Excellence, Dr. Shamara Baidoobonso was invited to speak during our Friday meeting today about Black History Month.  Dr. Shamara Baidoobonso works in PEI as the Chief Epidemiologist, as well as researching and volunteering within her community in her spare time. Her work in epidemiology has focused on, and paved the way for, awareness of HIV and AIDS in the Black, Caribbean, and African communities in Canada. This work has brought awareness to the health challenges, disenfranchisement, and disproportionate access to services within the Black community.

In addition to being an advocate, volunteer, and Rockstar mom (sister and daughter!), Dr. Shamara Baidoobonso has recently been named one of Canada’s Top 33 Black Leaders. Thank you again Shamara for your time, support, and hard work in both PEI and Ontario.

A reminder that all students must complete the school screener daily (see link above) and will need to verify this with school staff each day. Students are required to wear a well fitted cloth or medical mask.

Please continue to check http://www.mybigyellowbus.ca/ for any bus delays or cancellations.

Students in grade 8 will have an opportunity to have Graduation Photos taken here at Amethyst. Our graduation photos are scheduled for the morning of Thursday, March 31st.

Term/Semester 2 IEPs will be developed and completed for March 22nd. Our students travel home on March 25th and IEPs will be sent that day in the communication folders. If you would like a copy of your child’s IEP before March 25th, please contact the homeroom teacher and an email copy can be sent on March 22nd.

You will find a copy of the IEP Parent Input and Information Form in the communication folder this week. Please sign and return this form, even if you do not have any questions or comments at this time.

Our pool is reopening on Tuesday, March 1, so students will need to pack their bathing suits next week for physical education classes.

We hope you enjoy the weekend!

Ms. McHardy

Extended Day Program/Lodging Update

Hi Parents and Guardians,

The pool will be opening for student lodging starting March 1, 2022. Please remind your child(ren) to bring a bathing suit, towel, and shoes to wear to the pool. Extended day secondary students can swim on Monday’s and extended day elementary students can swim Wednesday’s. Homework must be completed to join.

This week you may see some permission forms come home for outings in student lodging.  If you can please ensure to look for these and please sign, date, and send back to ensure your child(ren) can go on these various outings.

The student support counsellors have prepared Winter Olympic themed activities for the students. Activities include snowshoe race, snow curling, obstacle courses, and more. Please ensure students come prepared for winter weather with a coat, hat, mitts, and snow pants (if you see fit). We are hoping for more snow in the upcoming weeks to ensure the Winter Olympics can happen before March Break.
