Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.

A reminder that students MUST pass the screening tool daily and show verification of this to attend school: COVID-19 school screening

You can print result, screen shot, or email verification to your child’s teacher. Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including any not listed in the screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. If there are any symptoms of illness at school, parents will be called to pick up their child.

Congratulations to our award winners last week:

  • Jasmine B. won the Golden Headset award
  • Leila A. won the WOW award
  • Ethan S. won the Kindness award

We have had a great start to the month of March. Intramurals have begun during lunch and students have the opportunity to be on our Yearbook committee. It has been nice to have these additional opportunities for our students.

To have some fun before the break we are having some Spirit Day fun next week!

  • Monday, March 7: Fan Favourite Day (wear a t-shirt, jersey or something to show your love of a band, movie, show, sports team, superhero, etc)
  • Tuesday, March 8: PJ/Comfy Clothes Day
  • Wednesday, March 9: Early St Patrick’s Day (wear green or something Irish)
  • Thursday, March 10: Pi Day Celebration (3.14) and Beach Day at the Pool
  • Friday, March 11 is a PD Day – students will travel home on Thursday night.

March Break is March 14-18. Students will return to school on Monday, March 21.

A reminder that all students must complete the school screener daily (see link above) and will need to verify this with school staff each day. Students are required to wear a well fitted cloth or medical mask.

Please continue to check http://www.mybigyellowbus.ca/ or murphybus.ca for any bus delays or cancellations.

Students in grade 8 will have an opportunity to have Graduation Photos taken here at Amethyst. Our graduation photos are scheduled for the morning of Thursday, March 31st.

Term/Semester 2 IEPs will be developed and completed for March 22nd. Our lodging students travel home on March 25th and IEPs will be sent that day in the communication folders. If you would like a copy of your child’s IEP before March 25th, please contact the homeroom teacher and an email copy can be sent on March 22nd.

Please sign and return a copy of the IEP Parent Input and Information Form that was sent home last week.

Our pool is now open, so students will need to pack their bathing suits next week for physical education classes where they will participate in a “Beach Day” as part of our Spirit Days!

We hope you enjoy the weekend!

Ms. McHardy

Extended Day Program/Lodging Update

Hi Parents and Guardians,

March Break is just around the corner! Our wonderful cleaning staff will be deep cleaning the dorm rooms during the break. To support the cleaning staff we ask that students bring home all clothing, bedding, and personal food for the week. The totes, fans, humidifiers, and mattress toppers can stay. If families come for a family night visit on Wednesday, we recommend picking up some of your child’s belongings.

The pool will be open next week for extended day and lodging students. Please remind your child to bring a bathing suit, towel, and shoes to wear to the pool. Extended day secondary students can swim on Monday’s and extended day elementary students can swim Wednesday’s. Homework must be completed to join.

Please see below contact information for dorms and extended day. Feel free to reach out to primary student support counsellors through the information below or email.
