Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.

A reminder that students must pass the screening tool daily and show verification of this to attend school: COVID-19 school screening

Congratulations to our award winners before March Break:

  • Carson M. won the Grit award
  • Darren S. won the Golden Headset award
  • Liam L. won the Growth Mindset award

Staff and students are still required to complete and pass the school screener each day. The screener will provide you with next steps. We will follow these next steps if a student becomes ill at school.

Our cafeteria will be offering lunches to our extended day students who would like to purchase a meal. There was a revision made in the cost of the meals in the cafeteria. Extended day students can now purchase lunch for $4.50. Please send in cash if you would like to purchase a meal.

Silent Auction

We are once again able to hold our Silent Auction! Prior to the covid mandates, this event took place for 18 years, consecutively. This year our auction will be held in the front lobby and will run from May 11th – 18th. It is the largest fundraiser we have each year at Amethyst and the deadline for donations is May 2nd. To date we have received donations from the Grand Theatre, Fleetway Bowling, and The Junction Climbing Centre, a RYOBI 15 10 – Inch Sliding Mitre Saw, an Oral-B Pro 500 Rechargeable Toothbrush and various personal care items.  If you would like a copy of our donation request letter to submit to a business, just let Janet know and she will send you a copy (janet.harju@ontario.ca). We are requesting new items only. We also collect Canadian Tire money to purchase items for the auction. If you have any items to donate please let Janet know and please send them into the school office with your child.  Funds raised are used to support the students at Amethyst. Thank you for your support!

Our next Parent Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 26. All parents are invited to attend and a Zoom meeting link will be sent out that morning.

The Middlesex London Health Unit will be here on Thursday, April 7 for the Grade 7&8 immunizations. This will take place in Student Health Services (SHS) in the afternoon. If you have any questions, please contact SHS.

Save the Date Student Recognition Night is scheduled for Thursday, June 23, 7 – 9 pm. This is an evening where we recognize all of the students and their achievements. More details will be shared closer to the date.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Ms. McHardy

Extended Day Program/Lodging Update

Hi Parents and Guardians,

Student Lodging and Extended Day have a couple fun events coming up! On Wednesday May 18th we are hosting a Family Barbecue from 5-6:30pm for a fundraiser. We will send home order forms at the end of April. On Thursday May 5th student lodging and extended day staff are hosting a school dance from 6:30-8:30pm. All students and staff are welcome! Extended day students are welcome to attend the dance as long as parents cancel transportation and are here to pick up their child from the dance when it ends. The dance will include fun games, activities, decorations, and great music. Interested secondary students can use prepping for the dance and the barbecue as volunteer hours.

Family Night

Parents are allowed in the building starting March 30, 2022. Parents are allowed to enter at the front entrance only, also known as “switchboard”.

Parents and siblings are only allowed in the building if they:

  1. Sign in at switchboard
  2. Complete the Ontario Schools Screener at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ with a pass and show it to their child’s primary counsellor.

We invite you to come swimming, play in the gym, or check out your child(ren)’s dorm. Families are also welcome to come eat dinner in the cafeteria for $13.55 (cash only). Please note that siblings must be with a parent at all times, they are not allowed to be in the pool, gym, or dorm, without their parent present. Please text your child’s primary counsellor’s dorm phone when the family night visit is complete and your child is back in student lodging’s care. Masks are not required but highly recommended for visitors to student lodging.
