Ms. Angela McHardy (Principal)

Amethyst’s mission is to provide a safe place where students, families and staff find support to learn, grow, discover and ultimately “Believe in Themselves”.

A reminder that students must pass the screening tool daily and show verification of this to attend school: COVID-19 school screening and follow the direction given.

Congratulations to our award winners last week:

  • Jax G., Mason B., Liam G. and Ethan S. won the Grit award
  • Ms. Shkilnyk’s class won the Growth Mindset award
  • Darren S. won the WOW award

Staff and students are still required to complete and pass the covid-19 school screener each day. Please follow the NEXT STEPS that are provided at the end of the screener, including the directions about a RETURN TO SCHOOL.

If students are absent they should be checking their Google Classrooms and completing the asynchronous work that is posted when they are well enough to do so.

Our Parent Council used funds from the Parent Reaching Out Grant to host Sara Westbrook this week. She presented to both our students and parents. She left us all with very practical strategies to support students and their well-being. Thank you to our Parent Council for this wonderful opportunity! Students will receive a journal next week and parents and staff also received resources so we can continue these great conversations with the students.

Congratulations to our Grade 9 math students who completed EQAO this week. We are proud of your hard work on this.

We have ordered 2021-22 yearbooks for each of our students. Our Parent Council is subsidizing $10 towards the cost for each student. Students will receive these at Recognition Night. Please send in $13.75 to cover the remaining cost of the yearbook. Payment can be made by e-transfer to harjuja@pdsbnet.ca, cheque payable to Amethyst School Council or cash.  Thank you to the Parent Council for your generous support of all of our students and to Ang Sampson and the students who created our yearbook!

On Tuesday, June 21, our elementary students will be going Roller Skating. Please send in permission slips and payment for the trip, if you have not already done so. We are looking forward to this final trip for the elementary students.

Our secondary students will be completing exams on June 20th and June 21st. On June 22, secondary students will be working with the Student Support Counsellors as well as preparing for Recognition Night. The secondary teachers have planned a trip for their students on June 23rd and in the evening they will participate in our Recognition Night. Please note that there will not be any further programming scheduled for secondary students after June 23rd as all final tasks/exams will be completed.

If you have not already done so, please return the consent forms for the Fall Follow Up meetings so that our Resource teachers plan with the school students are returning to. It is important that these are returned by Monday, June 20th. A copy will be placed in the OSR.

Technology Update:

Students returning to Amethyst for a second year may keep their SEA equipment over the summer and bring it with them on the first day of school in September. If you do not need the equipment over the summer and would like to store it at Amethyst please let your child’s teacher know by Monday June 20th. Students returning to their home boards can also keep their SEA equipment over the summer except for students from TVDSB, AMDSB, SCCDSB. Amethyst will collect equipment from students at these boards to send back to the boards. If you have your device over the summer, please connect with your board/home school at the end of august or first day of school to get your device prepared to use in September. Homeroom teachers can provide you with further direction on how to do this if you have any questions.

Student Recognition Night is scheduled for Thursday, June 23, 7 – 9 pm. Please plan to arrive and be seated by 6:45. This is an evening where we recognize all of the students and their achievements. A reminder that our building is a scent free environment. Please help us protect the health and safety of staff and students by not wearing any scents for the evening.

On Monday, June 27th, students will participate in our final assembly, virtually, at 10:00 am and will have asynchronous work posted in their Google Classrooms for the remainder of the day. Please note that Monday, June 27th is the last day of school. Tuesday, June 28th is a PD Day.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and all the dads a Happy Father’s Day!

Extended Day Program/Lodging Update

Hi Parents and Guardians,

As the end of the year approaches, secondary students are working hard on their cumulative tasks and studying in the dorm. We wish the secondary students the best of luck!

Staff appreciation is on Thursday June 23. This week, the students decorated cupcakes to give to security, cleaning staff, secretaries, and the bus drivers. On Thursday, the students gave the cupcakes to the staff early to celebrate!
